Magnololis an organic compound with the molecular formula C18H18O2. it is a brown to white fine powder with an aromatic smell, pungent taste and slight bitterness. The monomer is colourless needle-like crystal (water), melting point 102°C. Soluble in benzene, ether, chloroform, acetone and commonly used organic solvents, insoluble in water, soluble in dilute solution of caustic alkali to get sodium salt. React with methanol solution of ferric chloride, showing blue-black; react with Millan's reagent, a brown precipitate; react with hydrochloric acid solution of resorcinol, a red precipitate. The phenolic hydroxyl group is easily oxidised, while the allyl group is easily subjected to addition reactions.
