Functional characteristics
Physicochemical properties : 1-docosanol usually exists as white solid crystals, particles, or wax blocks, insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, chloroform, and mineral oil. With a melting point range of 65-72°C and a boiling point of 180°C (at 0.22 mmHg), it has high stability but is flammable and incompatible with strong oxidants
Bioactivity : 1-docosanol has antiviral activity, especially against herpes simplex virus (HSV). By changing the lipid composition of the host cell membrane, it inhibits the fusion of the virus envelope with the host cell membrane, thus effectively blocking the invasion and replication of the virus.
